Alder veneer is a light pink to reddish toned wood that darkens with age. The rustic, knotty sheets contain sound knots and other defects. Alder is an easy to work with hardwood. It is strong, with a satiny, fine texture and tight uniform grain and color. The grain has a slight figure or flashing. Sometimes there is a color variance between flitches. It accepts stains and finishes well but is preserved best with a clear coat.
